Rapla Metall and Tamult join forces, giving a new impetus to the top thermal energy company

The new owner of AS Tamult, which offers biofuel solutions, is the company’s long-term cooperation partner OÜ Rapla Metall.

“I am one hundred percent satisfied with the continuation of the operations of Tam- ult in the ownership of Rapla Metall,” says Jüri Taal, a former member of the management board and majority shareholder of AS Tamult. “I have already brought Rapla Metall with Tamult’s cooperation partners, and the transition of the company to the new management has been smooth.” Ac- cording to Taal, the cooperation between the two companies has gone well and in- intensified over the years.

Tamult was started in 1992 when the energy mechanics department of the Kirov fisherman’s collective farm was privatized to employees. In the same year, the company, in cooperation with researchers from Tallinn University of Technology, manufactured the first biofuel pre-hearth in Estonia (capacity 0.5 MW). Over the next 30 years, Tamult designed, manufactured, and installed more than 40 boiler houses using biofuel technology.

The objects of AS Tamult are located in Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Finland, Sweden, and Poland. AS Tamult, an Estonian company with one of the best biofuel combustion technologies, has won several tenders for the modernization of boiler houses financed by the European Union in Estonia and elsewhere.

Tamult’s most significant projects are biofuel combustion hearths in Valka and Rezekne cogeneration plants in Latvia – with capacities of 12 and 14 MW, respectively. Tamult’s most significant projects are biofuel combustion hearths in Valka and Rezekne cogeneration plants in Latvia – with capacities of 12 and 14 MW, respectively. In Estonia, Tamult has designed and in- stalled, for example, a heat and power cogeneration plant in Rakvere. As a benchmark for renewable energy, Tamult has designed and installed flue gas condensers and filter systems for the efficient use of residual heat in the combustion of biofuels in reconstructed boiler houses in Valga, Keila, Haapsalu, and Jõgeva.

Tamult has built district heating boiler houses in several small towns and settlements in Scandinavia. “Many projects are currently being started in the field of thermal energy, where technology is needed to help produce heat as efficiently as possible,” says Harri Rütman, a Member of the Board of Tamult. “There is no cost-effective solution than biofuel for district heating boiler houses in smaller cities, settlements, and industries.”

According to Maiko Leesment, a member of the Board of Tamult, it is possible to build a heat production unit with high efficiency but a low environmental footprint and operating costs using modern cleaning and heat recovery equipment.

According to Maiko Leesment, a member of the Board of Tamult, it is possible to build a heat production unit with high efficiency but a low environmental footprint and operating costs using modern cleaning and heat recovery equipment. Leesment emphasizes that cleaning technology has been especially on the agenda recently, as the European Union’s new climate directives require that appropriate equipment is installed in the heating systems. They clean flue gases emerging from heat production, particularly from particulate matter; the concentration in old combustion equipment is, on average, 5 to 10 times higher than the limit values required by the Medium Combustion Plants Directive. “The installation of cleaning devices, such as electrostatic and bag filters, meets the requirements without any problems,” confirms Leesment.

According to Leesment, another important component of modern heating systems – heat recovery technology – is to obtain the last energy from flue gases. This reduces energy loss with exhaust gases and increases the efficiency of heat production. “Depending on the operating mode of the heating equipment and the needs of the heat consumers, it is possible to increase the efficiency by an average of 15-25%, up to 30% under favorable conditions,” says Leesment. “As a result, flue gas condensers are well suited for district heating boiler houses run- ning on moist biofuels, where the heat carrier temperatures are low, and the amount of energy contained in the flue gas is high.”

AS Tamult thanks all cooperation partners, with whom many efficient and innovative solutions have been implemented. Both old and new partners can continue to count on Tamult – the company has all the necessary technologies and knowledge to offer the best solutions in the following ar- eas of competence:

  1. Construction of boiler houses and heat and power cogeneration plants

Tamult provides a complete engineering turnkey solution based on the customer’s needs. The projects cover everything from receiving and storing fuel to handling ash from combustion and cleaning flue gases.

2. Flue gas cleaning and condensing equipment

In energy, there is an increasing focus on using residual heat from flue gases. Tamult develops and manufactures technological equipment for efficiently using residual heat and cleaning flue gases from solid volatile particles. Multicyclones, electric, and bag filters are used to clean the flue gases. Flue gas condensers and scrubbers are suitable for efficiently using residual heat, increasing boiler houses’ efficiency.

3. Solid biofuel boilers and grate furnaces

We manufacture and install fully automatic grate furnaces and boilers to produce heat and electricity that meet modern standards. We offer solutions for burning biofuels (wood chips, wood waste, peat, municipal waste, garbage, etc.) with hot water, steam, and thermal oil boilers with a 1 MW to 20 MW capacity. They can be used in the district and local heating, combined heat and power plants, wood industries, etc.

4. Spiral and chain scraper conveyors

We develop and produce scraper and spiral conveyors for transporting various materials.

5. Mechanized warehouses for biofuels

Tamult offers biofuel scrape warehouse technology based on long-term experience, which is highly reliable and has won excellent customer approval.

6. Boiler masonry and insulation work

We perform masonry work for combustion hearths. Various technologies are used to make high-temperature-resistant combustion hearths.

7. Electricity and automation

In the field of heat and energy management, we offer the design and construction of electrical and automation systems, from planning the customer’s wishes to implementation and tuning.

8. Design

In cooperation with the customer, we design the best possible solution for the boiler house’s technical and heating systems.

9. Installation

Our extensive, long-term, and well-skilled team installs the technology from the complete solution to constructing individual assemblies.
